Chicago Police Department

On August 2, 2003 NY Finest took on the Chicago Police Department in the first annual Anthony Vazquez Memorial scholarship game at St. Johns University. Proceeds of the game would go to the scholarship fund that Jose and Rose Vazquez set up in the name of their son Anthony.

Rain couldn't keep the game from being played as the St. John's grounds crew with help of  NY Finest players got the field ready for action. Chicago's Finest which is an all-star team made up of  40 members of the Chicago Police Department selected from the three Chicago Police teams, made the trip to New York to participate in the first Annual Game.

The two teams played in 2001 at Comiskey Park (home of the Chicago White sox) with Chicago winning that game 5-2. With the stages set the two teams took the field and Chicago jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. They tacked on another run in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead. The score was 4-0 in the 4th when Lee Jones Doubled in Eric Sorensen to get on the scoreboard. The game remained that way until the bottom of the 8 th when NY scored 4 times to take the lead 5-4. That's all NY Finest needed as Kevin Gieras took the ball in the 9th striking out 3 of 4  batters to end the game. Once again NY Finest showed a team effort as each pitcher pitched an inning of this charity game. NY Finest improved to 25-7-2 as they prepare for the playoff and tournament run.
